Lesson Policies

Guidelines for a successful learning experience

Scheduling & Attendance

  • Lessons are scheduled weekly at a consistent day and time.
  • Students should arrive 5 minutes before their scheduled lesson time.
  • If you need to miss a lesson, please notify your instructor at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Late arrivals will result in shortened lesson time; lessons will end at the scheduled time.

Cancellation Policy

  • 24+ hours notice: Lesson can be rescheduled at instructor's availability.
  • Less than 24 hours notice: Lesson is forfeited and payment is still due.
  • No-show: Lesson is forfeited and payment is still due.
  • Emergencies and illness will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
  • Instructor cancellations will always be rescheduled or refunded.

Payment Terms

  • Payment is due at the beginning of each month for the upcoming month's lessons.
  • We accept cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, and credit/debit cards.
  • A late fee of $10 may be applied to payments received after the 5th of the month.
  • Lesson packages and semester rates are available for additional savings.
  • Refunds are not available for unused lessons except in extraordinary circumstances.

Studio & Home Lessons

  • Studio lessons take place at the instructor's designated teaching location.
  • In-home lessons may be available at an additional travel fee.
  • Online lessons are available via Zoom or FaceTime.
  • Students should have their instrument tuned and ready before the lesson begins.
  • Practice materials and music should be accessible during the lesson.

Practice Expectations

  • Regular practice between lessons is essential for progress.
  • Beginning students should practice at least 15-20 minutes daily.
  • Intermediate and advanced students should practice 30-60+ minutes daily.
  • Quality of practice is more important than quantity.
  • Parents of young students are encouraged to observe lessons and assist with practice.

Recitals & Performances

  • Students are encouraged to participate in studio recitals held twice per year.
  • Recital participation is optional but highly recommended.
  • A small recital fee may be charged to cover venue and accompanist costs.
  • Students should be prepared and have their piece memorized for recitals.

Communication

  • Please communicate schedule changes and concerns promptly.
  • Parents are welcome to observe lessons and ask questions.
  • Progress reports are available upon request.
  • We welcome feedback to improve the learning experience.

These policies help ensure a productive and enjoyable experience for all students. Individual instructors may have additional policies specific to their studio. Please discuss any questions or concerns with your instructor directly.
